System doesn't respond to forced log switch

System doesn't respond to forced log switch

I am backing up all the tablespaces in my database. When I get to the process of forcing a log switch and issue alter system switch logfile, the system does not respond or it hangs.I don't really know what is responsible for this and how I can move further

Is this a new problem that used to work correctly? The most likely case to me is that you do not have archiving turned on. Make sure that your initialization parameters are set for archiving and that when you issue ARCHIVE LOG LIST, the output says that you are in Archive Log mode. Also verify that your archive log destination has enough space for the archived redo log files.
